Uzgen is preparing for significant changes. As part of a strategy aimed at the city's development until 2026, plans include the construction of new educational institutions, the digitization of the security system, the renovation of road infrastructure, and the creation of a unified design code.

Eldos Taev, the mayor of Uzgen, shared information with a Turmush correspondent about current initiatives and plans for urban improvement.

Education: Schools and Kindergartens

Uzgen is a densely populated city facing a serious shortage of places in educational institutions. Currently, work is underway at eight schools:

Renovation: As part of the "ERIK" program, two schools are set to undergo major renovations.

Construction: A school for 500 students is being built in the Jany-Ozgon area.

Preschool Education: A new kindergarten was opened at the beginning of the year. Another kindergarten for 100 children is planned to open in mid-March at the Lenin School, and construction continues for a kindergarten at the Babur School.

Sports: A new modern sports hall has already been put into operation.

All facilities are expected to be completed by the start of the new school year.

Roads and Lighting

This year, the focus is on paving both central and internal streets:

Annual Plan: It is planned to pave 10 km of roads (4 km funded by the city budget, 5-6 km with the help of relevant ministries). For comparison, last year 5 km were repaired.

Priority Streets: Lenin, Amir-Temir, Malabaev, Mukimi, and others.

Safety and Lighting: Modern lighting fixtures have been installed along the Bishkek-Osh highway and on the streets of Manas, Mukimi, and Gagarin. Work continues on the streets of Amir-Temir and Malabaev.

General Plan and Demographics

Work on the general plan for the city, which covers an area of 1,080 hectares, is nearing completion.

Long-term Perspective: The plan is designed for 20-25 years.

Growth Forecast: At current rates, the population of Uzgen could reach 120,000 people within the specified period.

"Safe City" Project

To enhance safety, the city administration has purchased 60 video cameras.

“These modern cameras will cover up to 70% of the city’s territory, allowing for monitoring of traffic, protecting pedestrians and schoolchildren, and aiding in crime detection,” noted Eldos Taev. The video surveillance base is located at the Uzgen District Police Department.

Urban Improvement and Fight Against Illegal Constructions

Comprehensive work is being carried out in the city to clean the area:

Demolition: 35 illegal structures have been demolished on the territory of the district hospital.

Land Return: The Salidjan Sharipov School has had plots previously occupied by 9 trading points returned to it.

Environmental Monitoring: A special commission monitors the condition of mudflow channels and ditches to prevent emergencies.

Design Code: A unified style for the facades of buildings and trading points is being implemented to create a harmonious appearance for the city.

Recreation Areas and Culture

N. Aznabaev Park: The main city park, covering 8.5 hectares, is set for a large-scale reconstruction, the first in 20 years. With support from the World Bank, approximately 300 million soms have been allocated for the project. The park will feature new green areas, irrigation systems, and playgrounds.

Attractions: A pedestrian suspension bridge between the stadium and the park is already operational and has become popular among tourists.

Entertainment: The central stadium has been completely renovated, and the "Aychurek" cinema has reopened its doors.

Housing and Utilities, and Ecology

Sewage: Wastewater treatment facilities have been launched in the city. 4,000 subscribers are connected to the central system, and the capacity allows for an additional 20,000 new connections.

Landfill: An area of 6.5 hectares has been fully fenced and improved thanks to a $50,000 grant from an NGO.
