The Northern bypass will relieve Bishkek from traffic jams — construction is ongoing around the clock

According to information from the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Kyrgyz Republic, the implementation of these projects is of strategic importance for the Chuy region. The new roads will significantly improve connectivity between settlements, reduce travel time, and enhance road safety.

Characteristics of the Northern Bypass Road

This road, approximately 33 kilometers long, will connect the western and eastern districts of the capital, providing access to important national highways. Asphalt paving has been completed on several sections, and currently, lighting installation and drainage systems are being created. The project also includes the construction of modern interchanges, which will help reduce traffic load on the central streets of Bishkek from transit traffic.

According to Tashbek Zhanaliyev, the head of the project consulting group, the highway will have a "1B" category with six lanes of traffic. Lighting will be installed along the entire length of the road, sidewalks will be provided in populated areas, and metal barriers will be installed in the center and on the sides for safety. "This is the first large-scale project in 30 years of Kyrgyzstan's independence, funded by the state budget and categorized as '1B'. Importantly, 10 two-level intersections will be built, and the installation of the first bridge has already begun. This year, it is planned to complete 4 such intersections, while the others will be built next year," he noted.

Zhanaliyev added that the completion of construction is scheduled for the end of 2026. Work is progressing at an intensive pace, with a round-the-clock schedule in two shifts. The project also includes the repair of 4 bridges. Two laboratories, two asphalt plants, and two concrete plants are operating at the site, ensuring a continuous workflow.

Bishkek–Kün-Tuu–Shopokov Route

This section of the road is considered one of the key routes for freight transportation and agricultural transport. Currently, work is underway to widen the road, strengthen the foundation, and lay new asphalt. After reconstruction, the road will become two lanes in each direction, significantly increasing capacity and reducing the risk of accidents.

As reported by representatives of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Kyrgyz Republic, asphalt paving has been completed on 7 km of the road, while work on the other side is ongoing. The total length of the highway is 12.4 km, with a plan to complete 6.7 km of construction this year.

Bishkek–Kant–Tokmok Route

This direction is undergoing major repairs on certain sections, as well as the installation of modern drainage and lighting systems. Special attention is being paid to the quality of the surface, as the road serves a significant flow of passenger and freight transport daily, linking the capital with the industrial zones of the Chuy region.

The ministry emphasizes that the work is being carried out on schedule and is under constant control. Weather permitting, the completion of the main construction phases is scheduled for the end of this year.

"To date, the first layer of asphalt has been laid on the Bishkek–Kant–Tokmok highway, and the section is ready for operation. Temporary road signs have already been installed, and traffic in both directions is open," the agency reported.

Lebedinovka-HPP 5

Construction work is also actively underway on the Lebedinovka-HPP 5 highway, which leads to the Northern bypass road. To date, the first layer of asphalt has been completed on 4.4 km, and traffic is open.

It is worth noting that the total length of this road is 5.1 km. During reconstruction, the road category will be upgraded from two-lane to four-lane. The project also includes the construction of a sidewalk, installation of lighting, expansion of the existing bridge, and construction of a new pedestrian bridge. Additionally, a two-lane road will be built at the entrance to the Birimdik-Kut residential area.

The implementation of these projects aims to improve transportation infrastructure, create comfortable conditions for citizens, and promote economic growth in the regions. ```
