People with disabilities complained to the ombudsman about inaccessible infrastructure

Jamila Dzhamanbaeva held a meeting with residents of Tokmok and surrounding areas of the Chui region

A meeting of the ombudsman Jamila Dzhamanbaeva with local residents took place in Tokmok, attended by more than 200 people from the Issyk-Ata, Chui, and Kemin districts, as well as from the cities of Tokmok and Kant.

During the event, residents openly discussed the socio-economic difficulties they face in the region. A significant portion of the questions were raised by people with disabilities and parents of children with special needs, who highlighted the inaccessibility of urban infrastructure, the need to increase social benefits, the lack of necessary conditions in educational institutions, and the shortage of specialized centers.

Some parents shared that their children with autism are not accepted into schools. Additionally, mothers of children with disabilities expressed dissatisfaction with the challenges they encountered during the medical and social examination (MSE).

One participant of the meeting said: “We are forced to bring our children for examination ourselves, even if they cannot move. My adult child has to order a taxi because we are not allowed on public transport. This creates additional financial burdens for parents, especially those living in remote villages.”

Some residents also reported problems obtaining passports due to lost documents and lack of registration.

A resident of the Alamedin district raised the issue of water and environmental pollution caused by the development of a quarry in the village of Boz-Boltok.

Jamila Dzhamanbaeva assured that all appeals and written statements would be reviewed, and if violations were identified, appropriate response acts would be prepared.

As a result of the meeting, more than 30 written statements were accepted and 15 oral consultations were conducted. This forum was part of the first round of the "Caravan of Rights," during which the ombudsman also plans to visit the Issyk-Kul and Naryn regions.
