The Ombudsman stated the ineffectiveness of measures against violence

Jamanbaeva shared details about the tragedy that occurred in the Bakai-Ata district, when a woman became a victim of arson by her husband.

Ombudsman Jamilya Jamanbaeva called on state and law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts in the fight against domestic violence. In her opinion, the current measures are not yielding the expected results, and the problem of violence against women and girls remains extremely relevant.

This initiative was prompted by a high-profile incident that became known through social media. The information stated that a man doused his wife with gasoline and set her on fire.

Employees of the Ombudsman Institute, acting on Jamanbaeva's instructions, contacted the mother of the victim. It was established that the tragedy occurred on October 15, 2025, in the village of Boo-Terek, located in the Bakai-Ata district of the Talas region.

The 28-year-old T.k.M., who had been married for six years and was raising two daughters, suffered brutal violence from her husband, who, according to her mother, returned home in an intoxicated state, started a scandal, and beat her. He then threatened her and set her on fire, dousing her with gasoline.

The woman sustained burns over 60% of her body. She was initially taken to a hospital in Talas, but after three days, she was transferred to Bishkek due to her critical condition. Ultimately, she spent a month in intensive care and continued treatment in the burn unit of the City Clinical Emergency Hospital until December 18.

According to the victim's mother, the husband's relatives secretly took her back to Talas without notifying the family and misleading the doctors by presenting the incident as an accident. The woman was only able to recount what happened when her husband began to beat her again. After that, she sought support from her mother.

Currently, the woman and her children are in Bishkek. She requires further treatment and psychological assistance. A statement has been filed with the Lenin District Department of Internal Affairs in Bishkek, and the case materials have been transferred to the Bakai-Ata District Department of Internal Affairs. The Talas region prosecutor's office reports that an investigation has begun.

The Akikatchy Institute is ready to provide the woman with the necessary legal and psychological support. Jamilya Jamanbaeva urged law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough and objective investigation and to hold those responsible accountable under the law, emphasizing that violence against women must not go unpunished.
