The mayor added that Bishkek does not rank high in international air pollution ratings. “Recently, Almaty ranked 4th in pollution, while Bishkek is in 64th place. There is no apocalypse,” he emphasized, comparing the situation with Almaty.
In his speech, the mayor also mentioned that the city authorities studied successful measures taken in neighboring countries. For example, Tashkent has implemented 24 measures to improve air quality, 11 of which are already being applied in Bishkek.
According to Junushaliev, although the problem of smog has not been completely resolved yet, a decrease in the concentration of harmful particles in the air has been recorded.
We do not claim that smog has been completely eliminated, but we are taking the necessary measures. The level of harmful particles is decreasing.

The mayor also touched on the operation of the heat and power plant (HPP), noting that for the second winter in a row, it is successfully going through the heating season, and a sulfur removal system has been implemented on one of the pipes. “The system has been launched on the smallest pipe of the HPP, which is responsible only for steam,” he added.
In addition, the process of gasification of residential areas continues in Bishkek: out of 105 new buildings, 54 have already been connected. Municipal inspections, according to the mayor, regularly check houses from which black smoke is coming out.
“We also live in this city, and my children are here. We are using all available means to improve air quality,” concluded Aibek Junushaliev, emphasizing that work to improve the environmental situation in Bishkek will continue.
