"Central streets are overloaded"
This summer, Bishkek will begin the redistribution of bus routes, as reported by the Transport Department. These changes are aimed at improving the transport network for both residents of the capital and its guests.
The implementation of new routes is planned for the summer period.
According to the department, the optimization of the route network will affect lines passing through central parts of the city, such as the segment between Kyivskaya and Abdrakhmanov streets. Secondary streets that previously had no access to public transport will also be included in the redistribution process.
Currently, central streets such as Abdrakhmanov Street and Ch. Aitmatov Avenue are experiencing significant strain due to the increase in the number of routes. According to regulations, there should be no more than 10 routes on such major streets to avoid congestion and overload.
The department also reminded about the arrival of new "Zontong" buses in Bishkek.
At present, route projects have been prepared that will be redistributed to cover more previously unused streets, such as Mederov, Toktogul, J. Pudovkin, and L. Tolstoy streets.
Some residents express concerns that they will not be able to reach remote points. However, this is not true, as demonstrated by route No. 9, which runs across the entire city. Instead of spending time traveling across the city, it will be possible to use a transfer via a direct or circular route.
It should be noted that the optimization will not affect the entire route network, but only part of it. Some routes will remain unchanged after the monitoring and timing are completed.
Although work on optimization has already begun, the main large-scale redesign of the route schemes will be implemented at the beginning of the summer season when a decrease in the number of cars and passengers in the city is expected.
In the last three years, the Bishkek city hall has removed minibuses from the city center and discontinued trolleybus operations. At the same time, city authorities promised to create a new tram network in accordance with the new master plan.
