In Karakol, work has begun on the demolition of the old building of the Issyk-Kul Regional Musical and Drama Theater, named after Kasymaly Zhantushev.

On its site, a modern multifunctional congress hall is planned to be created.

According to the architectural project, the new congress hall will include two auditoriums: one large with 1,000 seats and one small with 350 seats.

This new facility will be fully equipped for organizing cultural events, international forums, concerts, and theatrical performances at the highest level.

During the construction period, the theater troupe will work in the building of the Ibrai Tumanyov Musical College. The theater director, Talaybek Turgunov, noted: “We have already completed the move. The Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports, and Youth Policy has allocated funds for the modernization of the stage at the college. The venue will be expanded and adapted to theatrical needs with the installation of the necessary lighting and sound equipment. We will continue our activities here until the congress hall is completed and also plan to actively tour both within the country and abroad.”

The Issyk-Kul Musical and Drama Theater is the only professional theater in the region. Its history began in 1937. The demolished building was opened in 1983, and in 1985, the theater was named after Kasymaly Zhantushev, one of the famous Kyrgyz playwrights. Currently, 140 employees work at the theater.

It is noteworthy that earlier, President Sadyr Japarov visited the theater, where he familiarized himself with its condition and emphasized the need for major repairs and modernization of this facility.
