The Minister of Culture, Information, and Youth Policy, Mirbek Mambetaliev, shared information in an interview with AKIpress about which theaters were renovated in 2025 and where equipment upgrades took place.

Children's Theater: from "shabby building" to "sweet treat"

According to Mambetaliev, approximately 80 million soms were allocated for the major renovation of the Children's Theater named after Baken Kydykeeva.

“A complete overhaul was carried out; the walls were demolished, and everything was rebuilt from scratch. The Children's Theater, I dare say, transformed from a shabby building into a real 'sweet treat.' We replaced all technical equipment and installed new lighting and sound systems,” the minister noted.

Russian Drama Theater: repairs for the next 10-15 years

In 2025, the major renovation of the Russian Theater named after Chyngyz Aitmatov was completed.

“More than 300 million soms were spent on the work. All the seats were replaced, and the stage equipment was also upgraded. We can be confident that for the next 10-15 years, we can forget about repairs in this theater,” Mambetaliev added.

Kyrgyz Drama Theater: upgrading outdated equipment

The Kyrgyz Drama Theater named after Toktobolot Abdumomunov underwent repairs; however, the stage equipment remained the same.

“Some elements of the equipment are older than me. I am already 45 years old, and this equipment is still in use. Honestly, sometimes when international theater festivals take place, I feel embarrassed,” the minister said.

He added that in 2025, the Ministry of Culture allocated 30 million soms for the replacement of outdated stage equipment, including sound and lighting systems.

Opera and Ballet Theater: preparation for world tours

The Opera and Ballet Theater named after Abdylas Maldybaev was allocated 60 million soms in 2025 for the replacement of sound and lighting equipment.

“The theater is a true cultural temple, and both sound and light play a significant role here. We also purchased a Steinway piano for 25 million soms. Many famous pianists want to perform here, but their requirements are such that a Steinway is necessary. We bought it, and it is already in the theater. We hope that starting next year, renowned pianists will come to us and play on this piano,” the minister concluded.
