Situation in schools: conflicts, staff shortages, and declining quality of education
Teachers from Kyrgyzstan have appealed to the Prime Minister to address the issue of uneven salaries. This appeal was initiated by the Federation of Trade Unions.
According to the opinions of educators, there is a significant inequality in salary calculations, ranging from 6,900 to 11,500 soms. This will also affect future salary increases, as they will differ for teachers of different subjects.
"Teachers of various disciplines perform a similar volume of work, including lesson preparation, grading, methodological and educational activities, participation in pedagogical councils, as well as interaction with parents and students," the educators note.
Previously, before the adoption of Resolution No. 181, teachers' salaries did not depend on the subject, and payment conditions were equal for all. However, the introduction of new coefficients has led to significant differences in salary levels for similar workloads, causing concern in the educational community and creating tension in educational institutions.
"The work of a teacher, regardless of the subject, requires high qualifications, responsibility, resilience, and continuous professional growth. Every educator, whether teaching languages, history, mathematics, or natural sciences, makes an important contribution to the education and upbringing of the younger generation," they add.
Educators understand that the increase in coefficients for certain subjects was driven by the desire to attract specialists in specific areas; however, this has led to the problem of unjustified differentiation in the salaries of those performing similar tasks.
In this regard, they demand the formation of a working group with the participation of experts to review the existing coefficients and establish fairer payment conditions, without dividing subjects into "priority" and "non-priority."
It should be noted that a salary increase for teachers and doctors is scheduled for April 1 in Kyrgyzstan.
The Ministry of Education has stated that they will increase salaries for all educators; however, different calculation coefficients will lead to varying final amounts.
