The Chairman of the Union of Artists of the Kyrgyz Republic, Jakshybek Junushev, informed Kaktus.media that the information about a possible termination of the lease agreement for the land plot where the House of Artists is located at Chuy Avenue, 108, reached them through social networks. The artists learned about this unofficially when rumors began to spread due to visits from representatives of various government agencies.

Junushev noted that the plot was leased in the late 1990s for 49 years, and there are still more than 20 years left until its expiration.

He also emphasized that the Union consists of 515 professional artists with diplomas and has not received any official notifications regarding plans to seize the plot.

Unofficial Sources on Possible Seizure

"Initially, these were just rumors. Representatives from various government structures, such as the State National Security Committee, the Presidential Administration, and the city hall, came to us, but we did not pay much attention to it. Soon, information began to appear on websites and social networks, and only then did we realize the seriousness of the situation," he said.

In his opinion, such actions contradict previously stated initiatives aimed at supporting the arts, particularly the presidential decree of 2023 on supporting culture.

Junushev added that decisions regarding the fate of the plot and the building are being made without the participation of the Union of Artists. He noted that the House of Artists has the status of a republican architectural monument and is a non-state facility used by a public organization.

The artists also emphasize that this building is the private property of their organization and does not belong to the state. They have appealed to the country's leadership with a request to preserve the House of Artists as an important cultural space for creativity.
