The National Historical and Archaeological Museum Complex "Sulaiman-Too" in Osh is preparing for a major reconstruction. The project, funded by the World Bank, allocates about $12 million as grant funds for the implementation of this plan.

The Deputy Director of the complex, Khayrullo Ibaiullayev, stated that the allocated funds will be directed towards the renovation of key tourist facilities, including a complete overhaul of roads, stairs, gates, internal spaces, and museum facades. The restoration of Ak-Medrese, built by Alymbek Datka, is also expected. The project is divided into 12 sections and will be implemented in three phases.

To improve accessibility for people with disabilities, golf carts will be launched to operate from the museum's central parking lot to the "Water Gate" on the eastern side.

The planned works will take two years, during which the complex will remain open to visitors throughout the entire time.

During the discussion of the project, the Mayor of Osh, Janarbek Akayev, proposed the creation of a bike path and sidewalk around Sulaiman-Too. However, as Khayrullo Ibaiullayev explained, this initiative will be considered in the next phase, as any changes to a UNESCO World Heritage site must be pre-approved by UNESCO.

It is worth noting that the reconstruction project for Sulaiman-Too was initiated back in 2019; however, its implementation was delayed due to the pandemic and lack of funding. The last major works here were carried out in 2000 in honor of the 3000th anniversary of Osh.

According to statistics, approximately 300,000 tourists visit the complex annually, of which about 7,000 are foreigners.

Sulaiman-Too is the main attraction of the city of Osh and became the first site in Kyrgyzstan to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2009.
