The list of fields of study for training specialists in Kyrgyzstan's universities is set to be revised.

At an extended meeting organized by the Ministry of Science, Higher Education, and Innovations, current issues regarding the reform of the higher education system in Kyrgyzstan were discussed.

According to the ministry's press service, the event was attended by deputy ministers responsible for various areas, as well as representatives from structural divisions. University rectors from the regions were able to join the discussion online.

The meeting focused on ongoing reforms, as well as priority areas for the development of higher and secondary vocational education. Participants discussed the transition to new state educational standards in connection with the introduction of the 12-year school system, as well as the need to revise training areas and update educational programs in accordance with modern requirements.

Important aspects of scientific activity were also discussed, such as the development of scientific potential, improving the quality of research, and strengthening the connection between science and education.

Particular attention was paid to the role of educational and methodological associations, the implementation of a key performance indicators (KPI) system in universities, and increasing the transparency of their operations.

Additionally, the meeting reviewed measures to improve the quality of higher education and develop innovative approaches, including updating educational and research programs, enhancing the scientific potential of universities, and improving quality management.

During the meeting, information was also presented about current initiatives for the digitalization of education and plans for the near future.

Furthermore, participants discussed the draft strategy for the development of higher education for 2026–2030 and key areas of the National Development Program until 2030, which include the implementation of a dual education system, expanding cooperation between universities and business and the scientific community, updating training programs, and developing new promising areas.

Minister Gulzat Isamatova emphasized the need for systematic modernization of higher education, practical orientation of training, and integration of science, education, and production. She also noted that such meetings would be held in all universities across the country, with reports on the activities of each educational institution being presented.

As a result of the meeting, priority tasks were identified, and corresponding instructions were given.
