In the first half of 2025, there were 1,245 cases of corruption and economic crimes registered, involving 710 individuals. The highest number of offenses was recorded in local self-government bodies — 183 cases, which is 32 more than in the same period of 2024. In the healthcare sector, the number of corruption crimes amounted to 103, which is also 29 more compared to the previous year.
Corruption has also affected other state structures:
- Land management and geodesy bodies — 58 cases;
- Education and science — 49 (in 2024 — 100);
- Police — 48 (in 2024 — 39);
- Energy companies, including "Barki Tojik" — 39 (in 2024 — 80);
- Banking institutions — 30;
- Ministry of Agriculture — 24 (in 2024 — 50);
- Ministry of Labor — 12 (in 2024 — 10);
- Ministry of Defense — 12 (in 2024 — 70);
- Judicial authorities — 8 (in 2024 — 15);
- Committee for Environmental Protection — 7;
- Other agencies — 665 crimes.
Of the total number of crimes, 442 were classified as corruption-related, 603 as economic, and 200 as other. As a result of investigations, 571 criminal cases were sent to court against 528 suspects.
Additionally, significant financial damage of over 127.3 million dollars was recorded in connection with the activities of the Dushanbe International Airport. The former head of the airport and several of his employees are in custody.
According to the Corruption Perceptions Index published by Transparency International for 2024, Tajikistan ranked 164th out of 180 countries, which is a drop of 19 positions compared to the previous year.
