In the first stage, he achieved a confident victory over a wrestler from Tunisia, and then defeated his Egyptian opponent. In the semifinals, Makhmudov faced an Iranian athlete competing for Qatar and managed to secure victory in a tense match.
In the final bout, the Kyrgyzstani faced another representative from Iran.
Makhmudov won by fall, which earned him the gold.
This medal became the first for Kyrgyzstan at the current Islamic Games.
