FIFA recorded a record demand for tickets for the 2026 World Cup

According to FIFA's press service, approximately 500 million ticket requests were registered during the second phase of sales. This phase, which lasted 33 days—from December 11 to January 13—became the main period for ticket sales.

All requests were recorded only in FIFA's central system and came from fans in 211 countries and territories that are part of the organization. FIFA characterized the interest in the tournament as "a new record demand in the history of world sports," although specific figures that were surpassed were not disclosed. In the previous tournament in Qatar, for example, during the second phase of sales, about 23.5 million requests were made for 2 million available tickets.

The 2026 World Cup will be the first where the number of participants increases from 32 to 48 teams following the reform. FIFA President Gianni Infantino noted that the total number of tickets for the upcoming World Cup will be between 6 and 7 million.

The highest number of requests came from football fans in the host countries, as well as from Germany, England, Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, and Colombia. The most sought-after match was the group stage game between Colombia and Portugal, scheduled for June 27 in Miami. Requests for the final match ranked third, while requests for the opening match ranked fourth.
