At the tournament held on February 25 and 26 in Tirana, the Kyrgyzstan national team took 7th place in the team standings.
During the competition, which featured 29 teams, 10 sets of medals were contested, making the wrestling in each weight category very intense.
Team Achievements and Points
The Kyrgyzstan team was represented by 10 wrestlers, and as a result of their performances, they won three medals - one gold, one silver, and one bronze, earning a total of 55 team points.
The highlight of the tournament was the performance of Ernazar Akmataliev in the 70 kg weight category, who confidently progressed through the tournament and won the gold medal. In the same category, Zalkarbek Tabaldiev received a bronze medal, adding to the team’s medal tally.
However, according to the rules of ranking tournaments, only the points of one participant from each country in each weight category are counted towards the team score, which prevented Kyrgyzstan from gaining an additional 15 points for Tabaldiev's bronze, thus affecting the team's final standing.
Significance of the Tournament
Ranking tournaments are of great importance in international sports as they influence the formation of the world rankings of wrestlers. The points earned are critically important for the allocation of places at world championships and other major competitions of the season.
Seventh place among 29 countries highlights the level of competitiveness of Kyrgyz wrestlers on the international stage, which inspires optimism ahead of upcoming tournaments.
