Tabaldiev competed in the 70-kilogram category, starting his journey from the Round of 16.
In his first match, he achieved a quick victory over Rustam Kakhrov, who represents the same team. He then also won decisively against Bulgarian wrestler Kaloyan Atanasov, which allowed him to advance to the semifinals. However, there he was unable to secure a victory against American Alek William Pontaléo.
In the bronze medal match, Zalkarbek was supposed to face Mexican Austin Kli Gomez, but the latter withdrew from the competition due to injury. As a result, Tabaldiev became the bronze medalist of the tournament.
