“It is essential for this forum to become a pivotal moment in the development of bilateral and regional relations”
On November 6, the “C5+1” summit (Central Asia + USA) will take place in Washington, where important issues for Kyrgyzstan may be discussed, as noted by former Prime Minister Felix Kulov.
As previously reported, Sadyr Japarov will attend the meeting at the invitation of Donald Trump, where the leaders of Central Asia and the USA will gather.
Kulov expressed hope that at this high level, it would be possible to resolve existing problems concerning Kyrgyz migrants and students in the USA. He also emphasized the need to review unjustified economic restrictions, such as sanctions and high tariffs affecting Kyrgyzstan. “It is important for this forum to become a pivotal moment in the development of bilateral and regional relations, creating a more sustainable and mutually beneficial model of cooperation,” he added.
The former prime minister suggested that the presidential administration include the following proposals in the agenda of the visit:
- increase the number of places for Kyrgyz students to study in the USA;
- simplify visa procedures;
- ensure legal protection for Kyrgyz citizens in the USA;
- discuss attracting American investments in green energy projects through debt swaps, support for the IT sector, as well as the banking and financial sectors, including the establishment of an Investment Fund with American investments;
- consider creating a joint “Digital Trade Center” to promote Kyrgyz goods in the US market;
- establish cooperation in combating drug trafficking, terrorism, cybercrime, and money laundering;
- form a bilateral mechanism to assess the justification and risks of imposing economic sanctions.
“Kyrgyzstan will confirm its role as a reliable partner at this summit, interested in predictable and mutually respectful relations with the USA, while taking into account the sovereignty and national interests of the country,” concluded Felix Kulov.
