Burani Monuments
Kayraks of the Burana Settlement
In the second issue of "Epigraphy of Kyrgyzstan," we published five kayraks from the Burana settlement with Arabic inscriptions. We know that at least 10 kayraks have been found in the area of the Burana settlement. Four kayraks were published by V.N. Nastich. We are publishing two kayraks from the settlement, which are also in the collections of the historical museum of Frunze. The inscriptions for publication were provided by D.F. Vinnik. We assigned them numbers 6 and 7, continuing our numbering of Burana monuments.
MONUMENT № 6
A stone of dark blue color, irregularly shaped, measuring 38x26 cm. The inscription is faintly carved on both sides. The lower, elongated part of the text is missing: this part of the stone was supposed to be placed on a grave. The photograph and the impression were made by us. It is published for the first time (Table XX, Fig. 1, 2, 3, 4).

Text on the front side:

Translation:
(1) In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
(2) Allah bears witness that there is no
(3 - 5) other worthy of worship, and also the angels and knowledgeable people,
being firm in the truth, profess: "There is no one worthy of worship
except Him, the Mighty, the Wise. Truly, piety before
Allah is submission (Islam)"
Text on the reverse side:

Translation:
(1) There is no god but Allah,
(2) Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.
(3) [This was] written by Mahmoud.
MONUMENT № 7
A gray stone of elongated shape. There are seven lines of inscription. Due to poor preservation and the complexity of the text, we are currently providing a general view of the monument and a drawing of the inscription, thus giving specialists the opportunity for acquaintance and further research (Table XX, Fig. 5, 6).

At the end of the text, the words can be seen: "...may Allah have mercy."
