The 5000 som banknote of the 2009 series is made of white paper measuring 156x73 mm. The predominant color of the banknote is green. The paper contains colorless fibers that fluoresce under UV light. It has a local watermark that repeats the portrait depicted on the front side of the banknote, as well as a watermark in the form of the banknote's denomination. A windowed metallic security thread with microtext "5000 СОМ" is embedded in the paper. The security thread changes color from red to green when the banknote is tilted up and down. White coupon fields are located along the edges of the banknote. The portrait, the inscriptions "КЫРГЫЗ БАНКЫ", "БЕШ МИҢ СОМ", the denomination "5000", and the signature of the Chairman (Төрага) of the NBKR on the front side are made with relief printing.
The 5000 som banknote features an original design and improved state-of-the-art security elements.

On the front side at the top of the banknote, there is the text "КЫРГЫЗ БАНКЫ", the signature of the Chairman (Төрага) of the NBKR, and the serial number of the banknote printed in red ink. To the left of the portrait is a security element called SPARK - three-dimensional numbers "5000", which change color from dark green to light green when the banknote is tilted left and right, and when tilted up and down, the denomination numbers change color from green to blue. The images on the watermark field align to form the word "сом" when viewed in light. On the left side of the banknote is the portrait of Suymonkul Chokmorov, a prominent Kyrgyz actor and artist, along with the inscription "СҮЙМӨНКУЛ ЧОКМОРОВ 1939-1992". The portrait is made visible under magnification with a microfont that repeatedly spells out "Сүймөнкул Чокморов". In the lines to the right of the portrait, the repeated inscription "Кыргыз Банкы" can be seen under magnification. Below the portrait is the text "БЕШ МИҢ СОМ". To the right of the security thread, a relief image of the Kyrgyz national pattern stands out against a yellow circle. The denomination numbers "5000" are located in the upper left and lower right corners. In the lower right part, there is a green rectangle containing a relief image of the national ornament. When viewed from different angles, a hidden image of the digital denomination "5000" can be seen. The serial number is located in the lower right corner, printed in black.
On the reverse side, at the top of the banknote, there is the text "КЫРГЫЗ БАНКЫ" and the denomination numbers "5000". In the center of the banknote is an image of the "Ala-Too" cinema building, one of the oldest cinemas in the capital, which is a historical and architectural landmark. Each architectural structure on the banknotes of the entire series is set against the backdrop of the beautiful peaks of Kyrgyzstan, symbolizing that the characters depicted on the banknotes have reached the heights in their fields – literature, music, cinema, and fine arts. The main thematic image consists of stylized micro-images of birds. In the center of the banknote is an iridescent (made with translucent paint) stripe with the repeating denomination "5000" and the inscription "Кыргыз Банкы". At the bottom of the banknote are the digital denomination "5000", the text "БЕШ МИҢ СОМ", and the year of issue of the banknote "2009".
