The 1 som banknote of 1993 is made of white paper measuring 140x70 mm. The predominant color of the banknote is red. The paper contains colorless fibers that fluoresce under UV light. It features watermarks in the form of an "eagle" spread across the entire surface of the banknote. The banknote is printed using offset printing.

On the front side of the banknote, at the top, is the text "КЫРГЫЗСТАН БАНКЫ" and the number with the inscription "1 СОМ". On the left side, there is a see-through register and a national ornament; on the right side - an image of the monument to the hero of the national epic Manas. At the bottom, there is the number "1"; the text "БИР СОМ"; the series and number of the banknote printed in black ink. The series consists of one digit and two letters, while the number consists of eight digits. On the white coupon field, there is the signature of the Chairman (Төрага) of the NBKR.

On the reverse side of the banknote, at the top, is the number with the inscription "1 СОМ" and the text "КЫРГЫЗСТАН БАНКЫ". In the center is an image of the Mausoleum of Manas (14th century), and along the edge of the horizontal ornamental strip, there is a microtext inscription "КЫРГЫЗСТАН БАНКЫ". On the top right, there is a see-through register. At the bottom is the text "БИР СОМ 1".

The 1 som banknote of 1994 is made of white paper measuring 135x65 mm. The predominant color of the banknote is yellow-brown. The banknote has a white field on three sides, 4 mm wide. The paper contains red, green, and blue fibers, as well as colorless fibers that fluoresce under UV light. The paper features a local watermark with the portrait of the akyn Toktogul Satylganov. It also has a vertically oriented visible protective thread with microtext "КЫРГЫЗ БАНКЫ". The banknote is printed using offset printing.

On the front side of the banknote, at the top, is the text "КЫРГЫЗ БАНКЫ" and the signature of the Chairman (Төрага) of the NBKR; the denomination of the banknote is "1". In the center, within the national ornament, is the digital denomination of the banknote; on the right is the portrait of Abdylas Maldybaev - the first Kyrgyz composer and performer - along with the inscription "АБДЫЛАС". At the bottom, there is the number "1"; the text "БИР СОМ". At the bottom left is a see-through register in the shape of an ellipse. On the right, there is a vertical ornamental strip.

On the reverse side of the banknote, at the top, is the serial number printed in red ink, the text "КЫРГЫЗ БАНКЫ", and the number "1". In the center, there is an image of Kyrgyz national instruments: the komuz and kylkyak against the backdrop of the Kyrgyz State Philharmonic building. At the bottom is the serial number printed in black ink. On the left side of the vertical ornamental strip is the number "1" and the text "БИР СОМ".

The 1 som banknote of 2000 is made of white paper measuring 120x60 mm. The predominant color of the banknote is green-orange. The paper features a local watermark that replicates the portrait depicted on the front side of the banknote. It also has a vertically oriented visible protective thread with microtext "КЫРГЫЗ БАНКЫ". The striped code is located on the left and right edges of the banknote.

On the front side of the banknote, at the top, is the text "КЫРГЫЗ БАНКЫ"; the series and number of the banknote, printed in red ink; and the signature of the Chairman (Төрага) of the NBKR. In the center, within the ornament, the number "1" is visible; to the right is the portrait of Abdylas Maldybaev - an outstanding Kyrgyz composer - and the inscription "АБДЫЛАС МАЛДЫБАЕВ (1906-1978)". At the bottom, there is the number "1"; the text "БИР СОМ"; a conditional mark in the form of a geometric figure for visually impaired individuals; a see-through register in the shape of an ellipse; the serial number printed in black; and a vertical ornament along the edge of the banknote.

On the reverse side of the banknote, at the top, are the text "КЫРГЫЗ БАНКЫ" and the number "1". In the center, there is an image of Kyrgyz national instruments: the komuz and kylkyak against the backdrop of the Kyrgyz State Philharmonic building in Bishkek. At the bottom right, the year "1999" is indicated. On the left side of the vertical ornamental strip is the number "1" and the text "БИР СОМ".

Distinctive features of the 1 som banknotes of the third series from 2000:

· Individual size of the banknote;
· New watermark - portrait of Abdylas Maldybaev;
· The serial number is located on the front side of the banknote. The size of the digits in the serial number, located in the lower right corner of the banknote, increases from left to right. The upper number is printed in red, and the lower number is in black;
· The striped code is located on the front side, on the right and left edges of the banknote. This element allows bank tellers to easily recognize packaged banknotes;
· Microtext consisting of continuous rows of numbers corresponding to the denomination of the banknote is located inside the number "1" in the upper right corner on the reverse side of the banknote;
· An anti-copying grid is located on the reverse side in the form of thin lines forming a cellular system, the structure of which changes when copied. The protective grid on the front side continues across the entire field of the banknote;
· As with all banknotes of the third series, on the front side of the banknote, near the right edge of the white coupon field, there is a corresponding conditional mark in the form of a geometric figure, unique to each denomination (O - 1 som).
