Dmitry Ivanovich Shcherbakov (1893-1966),

Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Professor, Academician

Born in Bryansk Oblast.

Graduated from Simferopol University (1922).

Worked in the Commission for the Study of Productive Forces (KEPS), as the scientific leader of the Tajik-Pamir and Central Asian expeditions of the USSR Academy of Sciences, head of the sector at the Institute of Geological Sciences of the USSR Academy of Sciences, head of the sector at the All-Union Institute of Mineral Raw Materials, departments of the Institute of Geology of Ore Deposits of the USSR Academy of Sciences, academician-secretary of the Department of Geological and Geographical Sciences of the USSR, conducted geological research in Central Asia, particularly in Kyrgyzstan. His scientific forecasts served as the basis for the discovery of industrial deposits of antimony and mercury in Kyrgyzstan, natural sulfur in the Karakum Desert, molybdenum, tungsten, and arsenic in the Caucasus.

Awarded the Order of Lenin and medals of the USSR. Laureate of the Lenin Prize.
