International organization stands up for elderly doctors in Kyrgyzstan

The international network "AgeNet" has sent a letter to the head of the Government of Kyrgyzstan, requesting an investigation into the dismissal of elderly doctors. Earlier, the decision to release several well-known specialists from their positions was made by the Minister of Health, Talantbek Batyraliev. All the doctors mentioned in the decree held leadership positions in major hospitals and medical centers. The minister explained this step as a desire to make way for the young, but international experts saw signs of discrimination in such actions.

In particular, the authors of the appeal ask the head of the government of Kyrgyzstan to provide a legal assessment of the dismissal of doctors with 30 or more years of work experience. According to the representatives of the organization, these individuals do not deserve such treatment. Finally, it is noted that such actions could provoke a wave of layoffs in other agencies and subsequently affect personnel policy. Thus, there is a risk that the minister's decision will lead to refusals to hire specialists of retirement and pre-retirement age, which is absolutely unacceptable in a rule-of-law state.
