According to information provided by the department's press service, the Department of Agricultural Crop and Horticulture Expertise of the Ministry of Agriculture emphasizes the importance of using high-quality, clean, and certified seeds.
The Ministry expresses concern that the choice of such seeds can significantly contribute to ensuring the country's food security.
“Seed cleaning plays a key role in achieving high yields. The process involves removing all foreign impurities, weed seeds, and damaged grains. Clean seeds are generally uniform in size and weight, which ensures their even germination. This, in turn, promotes uniform plant growth in the field and significantly increases yield,” the message states.
Thus, high-quality seed cleaning is one of the main factors affecting future yields.
The cleaning process begins with placing the seeds in a hopper, after which they pass through a cleaning machine that removes debris and large impurities. Then the seeds enter a drum, where they are cleaned of damaged grains. In the final stage, immature and light grains are separated using an air flow, and only after that are the clean seeds placed in a trailer.
Certified seeds serve as a guarantee of high-quality seed material.
To confirm the quality of the seeds, specialists from the Department of Agricultural Crop and Horticulture Expertise conduct analyses of varietal and species purity, as well as other indicators through field inspections in growing conditions. Laboratory studies include the assessment of sowing qualities such as germination energy, yield, purity, moisture, and the weight of 1000 seeds,” the appeal to farmers reports.
