Sugar factories in Kyrgyzstan accept up to 17,000 tons of beets per day
Idrisov explained that the factories operate on a contractual basis, providing farmers with seeds, fertilizers, and plant protection products. All harvested crops are accepted without remainder, and payment is made partially in cash (30%) and in the form of sugar (70%).
In the Chui region, there are six beet reception points, and in Talas, there is one. In Issyk-Kul, due to high logistics costs, beets are more often used as animal feed, making delivery less profitable.
This year, an electronic queue system has been implemented at some points.
“We conducted a comparison between electronic and traditional queues. The electronic system eliminates chaos: the farmer specifies the time and volume of delivery in advance — from 100 to 200 tons, and the point accepts it strictly according to the schedule,” he noted.
Using the regular queue presents challenges, as heavy machinery drivers strive to make more trips.
Starting next year, the electronic queue system will be implemented at all reception points. In the summer, training seminars were held for farmers, drivers, and factory staff on how to use the application.
“If we find shortcomings, the system will be refined. The main goal is to ensure a transparent and organized process for delivering the harvest,” Idrisov added.
Regarding the sugar content of the beets, he emphasized that this indicator should be at least 14-15%. It depends on both meteorological conditions and adherence to agricultural technologies.
“Beets are a demanding crop: the use of quality seeds, proper herbicide treatment, adherence to irrigation schedules, and timely harvesting directly affect the yield,” Idrisov noted.
The Deputy Minister also reminded that sugar beets remain the only crop in Kyrgyzstan for which farmers have a 100% sales guarantee.
The total area of sowing is 13,400 hectares, of which about 500 hectares are in the Talas region, 50 hectares are in Issyk-Kul, and the rest is in the Chui region.
“The Kant and Kainidin sugar factories conclude contracts with farmers in advance. These contracts can be considered futures, which ensures stability and profitability,” Idrisov concluded.
