The Minister of Construction spoke about measures to curb housing prices at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh
At a recent meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, the Minister of Construction, Architecture, and Housing and Communal Services, Nurdana Oruntaev, reported that Kyrgyzstan still relies on the import of building materials from abroad, with Russia traditionally playing a significant role as the main supplier of metal.
Oruntaev noted that in the construction industry, metal and conductors continue to be the most costly resources. In light of these circumstances, the government decided to allow the import of building materials from China.
The minister also pointed out the price manipulations by Russian suppliers in previous years, which contributed to a significant increase in the prices of rolled metal. However, as of 2025, the price per kilogram of metal remained stable in the range of 56–58 soms throughout the year.
"Last year, the situation was significantly better — we managed to keep prices within 56–58 soms. This affected the cost of housing," he added.
In addition, Oruntaev reported on the operation of several cement plants in both the south and north of Kyrgyzstan. To control housing prices, the government also purchased cement from local producers, which had a positive impact on the situation.
The minister emphasized that the state actively supports domestic producers while simultaneously attracting foreign suppliers to reduce costs in the construction sector and stabilize prices in the market.
