In his message on the social network Truth Social, Trump noted: “In light of the careful and thorough analysis of the strange and poorly substantiated decision by the U.S. Supreme Court regarding tariffs, issued yesterday, I, as President of the United States, announce an increase in the global tariff from 10% to 15% for countries that have been 'stealing' from America with impunity for decades — this is absolutely legal and necessary. In the coming months, my administration will develop new, legal tariffs, continuing our successful course of 'Making America Great Again' — GREATER THAN EVER BEFORE!!!”
Previously, the U.S. Supreme Court recognized that the imposition of import tariffs by the Trump administration was an overreach of authority, citing the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). However, the court did not specify whether the U.S. should refund previously paid tariffs.
