At the 7th meeting of the joint Kyrgyz-Uzbek water management commission, which took place in Manas, the Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan, Bakyt Torobaev, outlined important aspects of cooperation between the two countries. This information was provided by the Ministry of Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan.
During the meeting, key issues of cooperation were discussed, such as the effective use of water resources, ensuring energy security for the countries in the context of climate change, and prospects for joint development.
Torobaev emphasized that the relations between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan have reached the level of strategic partnership, which is based on trust and mutual support.
“Thanks to the decisive political will of Presidents Sadyr Japarov and Shavkat Mirziyoyev, complex issues, including border matters, have been successfully resolved, strengthening trust and good-neighborly relations between our peoples,” he noted.
It was also reported that Kyrgyzstan, being in the upper reaches of major rivers in the region, continues to fulfill its obligations to provide the downstream countries with the necessary volumes of water, contributing to food and environmental security in Central Asia.
“Water for us is not a subject of disputes, but a basis for mutual understanding and sustainable development,” the minister added.
To enhance the effectiveness of interaction, the Kyrgyz side proposed the following measures:
- implementation of drip and automated irrigation systems in border areas;
- creation of a "Green Belt of Friendship" along the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border for forest restoration and combating desertification;
- strengthening cooperation between government agencies on water and energy issues.
As a result of the meeting, the parties confirmed their readiness to further expand cooperation and implement new joint initiatives.
“I am convinced that our joint efforts will ensure sustainable development and prosperity for our countries,” the minister concluded.
