Currently, the second day of the Central Asian Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) business forum is taking place in Bishkek. The Minister of Economy and Commerce of Kyrgyzstan, Bakyt Sydykov, served as the keynote speaker, emphasizing that the creation of a logistics hub is an important direction in the implementation of the National Development Program of the country until 2030.

Sydykov noted that in 2024, it is planned to attract about 200 million US dollars to the transport sector. However, for the full development of the industry, an additional 1.65 billion dollars is required, which will create significant opportunities for investors wishing to implement large infrastructure projects.

The minister also spoke about the dynamics of cargo turnover in road transport in Kyrgyzstan, highlighting a steady growth in this area. "According to the EAEU data, over the past four years, the volume of cargo has increased by 82% — from 26 to 44 million tons. We aim to reach a cargo transportation volume of at least 110 million tons per year by 2030," he added.

Sydykov emphasized the importance of effective interaction among all modes of transport in the country's logistics system, including rail, air, and road transport. He mentioned that rail transport consistently carries between 2 to 3 million tons, providing significant opportunities for improving interregional connectivity. The main cargo aviation hubs in Kyrgyzstan are Manas Airport (in Bishkek) and Osh Airport, which have increased their cargo handling capacity twelvefold over the past four years. Additionally, major projects are currently being implemented to develop air transportation, including the construction of a new international airport in the Jalal-Abad region and the modernization of the "Manas" and "Tamchy" airports.

The head of the Ministry of Economy also emphasized that the next step in realizing Kyrgyzstan's geostrategic potential is the diversification of logistics corridors and the development of multimodal transport.
