Israeli minister urged New York Jews to leave the city due to Mamdani's victory

Shikli also noted that "New York will probably never return to its former state, especially for its Jewish community," and advised considering moving to Israel. He compared the situation to what happened in London, where the mayor since 2016 is Muslim Sadiq Khan, stating: "New York is step by step moving towards the abyss."

About 1.3 million Jews live in New York, making it the largest Jewish community outside of Israel. The mayoral elections took place on November 4. Donald Trump, the President of the United States, supported Mamdani's opponent and threatened to cut city funding, also calling Mamdani a "communist" due to his leftist views. The new mayor had previously described Israeli rule as "apartheid" and referred to the war in Gaza as "genocide."
