The transfer of the bodies of Palestinians took place after Israel received the remains of soldier Itai Chen, who was captured by Hamas on October 7, 2023. Information about his death became known on March 10, 2024. Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump called on Hamas for the immediate return of the bodies of the deceased hostages as part of a ceasefire agreement.
Since the signing of the ceasefire agreement, the International Committee of the Red Cross has transferred 285 bodies to Gaza; however, their identification is complicated due to the lack of DNA analysis kits.
