- Breeding livestock and seed production play an important role in ensuring the sustainable development of the agricultural sector in Kyrgyzstan. This was reported in a radio interview by the First Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, Zhanibek Kerimaliev.

According to Kerimaliev, a special order has been issued to increase the number of breeding livestock, taking into account the climatic features of the regions. This document includes recommendations for breeding and keeping breeds that are most suitable for local natural conditions.

“For mountainous areas, breeds have been identified that tolerate the mountain climate well and are adapted to a nomadic lifestyle. These include meat-dairy breeds such as Aberdeen-Angus, Simmental, Montbeliarde, and Hereford. For valley areas and those oriented towards dairy production, the recommended breeds are Holstein-Friesian, Swiss, Black-Spotted, Brown, as well as Simmental and Montbeliarde,” added the deputy minister.

Kerimaliev also noted that the Holstein-Friesian breed is one of the most productive in terms of milk yield and is actively used in dairy farming. In most cases, the recommended breeds are suitable for dairy or meat-dairy production and are well adapted to the conditions of Kyrgyzstan.

To support breeding livestock, the Ministry of Agriculture has developed a special program offering preferential financing for farmers at an interest rate of 3% per annum. This measure applies to both the purchase of breeding livestock within the country and its import from abroad.

According to the ministry's information, there are 186 breeding farms operating in Kyrgyzstan, and farmers purchasing livestock from official breeding farms can expect preferential financing. The main supplies of breeding livestock come from Europe, Russia, and Kazakhstan.

At the same time, the first deputy minister emphasized the importance of a careful approach when purchasing breeding animals. He noted that in some cases, farmers acquire livestock without verified lineage, which leads to the loss of breeding qualities and turns the animals into ordinary commodity livestock.

In this regard, he urged farmers to check breeding cards and pedigree documents, as well as to seek consultations from the Ministry of Agriculture, territorial agricultural development offices, and veterinary services.
