Emomali Rahmon, who has been actively involved in the opening of new facilities such as roads, factories, educational institutions, as well as in greening initiatives and government meetings, has disappeared from the public eye. This was noted in a publication by Ozodi.
On the president's website, the last published photograph was taken during a working meeting with law enforcement heads on January 28, 2026.
Representatives of the presidential administration have not provided comments regarding the condition or whereabouts of Emomali Rahmon. Some opposition analysts have speculated about his possible illness and being under medical supervision.
The appearance of a photograph of Rustam Emomali, the president's eldest son and speaker of the National Assembly, on February 6, in which he is pictured with leaders from three regions, only fueled rumors. Additionally, his post on Facebook on February 9 stating that "Children will preserve their parents' names if we raise them properly" heightened suspicions regarding the president's condition.
On February 9, the news agency "Pamir Inside," citing three sources, reported that "Emomali Rahmon traveled abroad at the end of January for treatment." According to reports, Tajik security forces are on heightened alert, and this situation may persist until February 12.
Official sources have not yet confirmed this information.
However, a reliable source close to the Tajik government told Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty on February 10 that "Emomali Rahmon is on vacation" and that the president "went to Hainan Island in China for treatment."
Another source at Radio Free Europe reported that the president flew to China on February 8.
Just a month ago, the president of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, commenting on the health of leaders from various countries, including Tajikistan, stated: "Emomali Rahmon has no health problems."
This is not the first instance of Emomali Rahmon disappearing from view. In 2020, the opposition claimed that he might be ill and receiving treatment in Germany. Later, the authorities denied this. Similarly, in 2022, after incidents on the border with Kyrgyzstan, the president did not appear in public for two weeks.
In 2017, there was active discussion on social media regarding Rahmon's health. Some media outlets close to the government explained his poor condition as a result of an intense workload.
Emomali Rahmon is 74 years old. He has been the president of Tajikistan since 1994, and prior to that, he was the chairman of the Supreme Council and the de facto leader of the country. Through elections and constitutional amendments, he has managed to strengthen his position and extend his term in office.
Throughout his rule, Emomali Rahmon has faced the flight or imprisonment of his opponents. He is considered a symbol of all of Tajikistan's achievements, and many of his relatives hold high government positions or lead large businesses.
