Damir Osmonov, Minister of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, held a meeting with Alexandra Solovyova, the UN Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative in the country. The agenda for the discussion included the results of current cooperation and possible directions for work in the healthcare sector.

The participants focused on ensuring the healthcare system is supplied with necessary medications, medical devices, and equipment, as well as preparing the country for the new grant cycle of the Global Fund aimed at combating AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria.

The parties noted that, thanks to UNDP support, work continues on the procurement and delivery of medical goods for healthcare institutions in Kyrgyzstan. Currently, a number of procurement and organizational activities are being carried out to promptly supply medical institutions with the necessary resources.

Logistics issues and stages of medical product deliveries within the framework of existing cooperation programs were also discussed.

A key point of the meeting was the discussion of preparing Kyrgyzstan's application for the new grant cycle of the Global Fund. Given the country's increasing revenues, a gradual reduction in donor funding is expected, which requires an increase in the share of national funds in public health programs.

The first application window will open in early June. A working group has been established to prepare the necessary documents, which includes national experts. UNDP will continue to provide expert and technical support in the process of preparing the application and implementing grant activities.

As a result of the meeting, the parties expressed their intention to continue cooperation aimed at ensuring the sustainability of public health programs, including the fight against tuberculosis and HIV, as well as strengthening the system for providing medications.

The record of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic and UNDP discussing the supply of medicines and preparation for the new grant period of the Global Fund first appeared on the K-News website.
