Turmush reported that the incident occurred on the evening of March 24, 2026, when the dog attacked a veterinarian and a soldier. The next day, March 25, the stray dog was caught and destroyed. Laboratory tests confirmed that the animal had the rabies virus.
According to the chief physician of the Batken inter-district center for disease prevention and state sanitary-epidemiological surveillance, Asel Koshbaeva, on March 24, a dog attacked two people, both of whom received bites on their fingers, with one being more severely injured. Both victims are undergoing a vaccination course and are under medical supervision for three months. Asel Koshbaeva noted that "the third person killed the dog with a stone when it ran into his yard, but there was no direct contact with it."
The chief physician also reported that in 2024, 675 people sought medical help after animal bites, and in 2025, this number decreased to 571 cases. Of these, 347 cases were related to dogs, while others involved cattle, donkeys, small livestock, mice, rats, cats, and other animals.
“During this period, no cases of rabies among humans were registered,” added Asel Koshbaeva.
Currently, both victims continue their preventive vaccination course and are under constant medical supervision.
