Kanykey Kydykbaeva, an epidemiologist from the Republican Center for the Control of Hemocontact Viruses and HIV, shared information about the methodology for conducting a rapid HIV test using gingival fluid. The specialist noted that this test is internationally recognized and can be performed at home without the need to consult a healthcare professional. The testing is quick and painless, taking only 20 minutes and does not require the use of blood. Before starting the procedure, it is recommended to refrain from eating, smoking, drinking, and brushing teeth for 30 minutes.
Kydykbaeva explained the procedure: first, it is necessary to check if the test packaging is damaged and to ensure the expiration date is valid. Then, the test system should be opened, which includes instructions, a disposal bag, a stand, a test stick, and a bottle of buffer solution. The bottle is placed on the stand, after which the test stick is prepared, which has two zones: control (C) and test (T). Next, the stick is run along the gums of the upper and lower jaws, after which it is placed in the buffer solution, activating the test.
The test result will be known in 20 minutes. If one red or pink line appears on the test, it indicates a negative result. Two lines mean a positive result, which is preliminary. In such a case, it is necessary to contact the Republican Center for Hepatitis and HIV or the regional center for confirmation through laboratory analysis. If the control line is absent, the test is considered invalid, and it must be repeated.
Additionally, Kydykbaeva clarified that the test is free and available in Bishkek at the Republican Center for Control of Hemocontact Viruses and HIV (Logvinenko St., 8) and at the State Center for Control of Hemocontact Viruses and HIV (Toktogul St., 62a), and it can also be ordered with delivery through the official website.
