On February 28, 2026, the Minister of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, Damirbek Osmonov, visited several medical institutions in Bishkek. During the visit, he familiarized himself with the conditions of medical service provision, the state of infrastructure, and current challenges in the healthcare sector, as reported by the ministry's press service.
At the National Hospital, Osmonov inspected the work of the emergency medical department and facilities that are currently under renovation.
According to the chief physician of the hospital, Bakyt Tologonov, the reconstruction of the intensive care unit has been completed, and the renovation of the reference laboratory building is expected to be finished by the end of April.
The establishment of the reference laboratory is being carried out with the support of the Asian Development Bank and aims to create a centralized laboratory base for the city's hospitals. This will allow the National Hospital to conduct laboratory tests for all hospitals in a centralized manner, improving the quality of diagnostics and helping to implement unified research standards. The project has been ongoing for a year, and after the completion of the renovation work, new equipment will be installed, and training for medical personnel will be organized.
Additionally, the minister reviewed the operations of the central emergency assistance department, which has been functioning for over a year and a half and has already established itself as a sought-after service. Directions for further improving its operations were identified, including the creation of a shock room and the enhancement of departmental equipment, as well as the organization of continuous ECG monitoring for patients in the intensive care unit.
Subsequently, the minister visited the Kyrgyz Scientific Center for Human Reproduction, where the center's management presented information about current operations, resources, and challenges in the field of reproductive health.
Following the visit, the minister instructed the management of the Reproduction Center to develop practical recommendations to improve maternal health indicators and strengthen the scientific potential of the institution.
