At the III Congress of Architects of Kyrgyzstan (1954), the issue of training personnel from the indigenous population was raised. This issue remained pressing at subsequent congresses, and only in 1965, at the initiative of the Union of Architects of Kyrgyzstan, was an architectural department established at the Frunze Polytechnic Institute, and from 1977, an architectural faculty was created. Most of the buildings constructed in the capital and cities of the republic were designed by local architects. These structures are characterized by a high level of craftsmanship. The foundation of this phenomenon lies in the development of the architectural school of the republic.
In the field of architectural education, the founders of the higher school of architects P. Ivanov, V. Nusov, and M. Muksinov worked successfully. Later, under the guidance of Doctor of Architecture V. Kurbatov, the traditions of the school were developed by V. Grigoryev, G. Konduchalova, R. Muksinov, Yu. Smirnov,
V. Foht, A. Shkaev; today, in search of new creative paths, O. Abishev, D. Omuraliev, V. Orozumbekov, K. Sarbanov, K. Sultanov, and others are working. The work of the faculty's teaching staff has received high praise. The level of projects by architectural youth meets modern requirements, as evidenced by the diplomas of I, II, and III degrees they have won at the annual all-Union reviews of diploma works of graduates from architectural universities in the country, in which the faculty has participated since 1970.
In recent years, the scientific potential of the faculty's teaching staff has significantly increased. G. Konduchalova, D. Omuraliev, L. Smirnov, R. Muksinov, and V. Orozumbekov have become candidates of architecture and are successfully conducting in-depth research in various areas of architecture and urban planning in the republic.
Over the past 20 years, the Frunze Polytechnic Institute has trained about 700 certified architects who work not only in the republic but also in other regions of the country.
Another educational institution preparing specialists in the architectural field is the Frunze Construction Technical School. It trains mid-level specialists, most of whom become active assistants to architects after graduation. At different times, qualified teachers have successfully worked and continue to work at the technical school: architects B. Tyan, L. Ushkvarov, E. Filipenko, T. Yudakhina, V. Yarysheva, and others.
