Paramedic Aiganysh Usupova has been working in the emergency department in Naryn for many years.

In an interview with a Turmush correspondent, she shared that her experience in this field spans 40 years.

Aiganysh was born in 1963 in the Kochkor district. In 1984, she completed her studies at a medical school and has been continuously working in the Naryn emergency services since 1985.

“I have spent my whole life here, turned gray, and grown up. I love my profession and try to help people with all my might,” she says.

Once, when her team responded to a call in a village, she had to deliver a baby from a woman right in the ambulance. “The most difficult moment was that the baby was born in a breech position. I was very scared and felt an immense responsibility. In the end, the delivery was successful, and we took the mother and newborn to the maternity hospital. After that incident, I went outside and cried,” she recalls.

“I was overwhelmed with mixed feelings: joy and fear. Even now, remembering that day, I feel strong emotions. Such moments are unforgettable. Every profession deserves respect, and ours especially, because it requires a high level of responsibility,” she added.

Usupova noted that emergency paramedics face a variety of challenges.

“We respond to calls related to cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure, childhood illnesses, and many other cases. It is particularly hard to see the consequences of traffic accidents. But in any situation, we try to provide assistance and transport patients to medical facilities,” she explained.

She also pointed out the problem of citizens seeking medical help too late.

“Some people prefer self-medication, buying medicines at the pharmacy and ignoring the need to see a doctor. Emergency services are only called when the condition is already critical. Sometimes parents treat their children at home for a long time and do not take them to doctors,” Usupova added.

She also emphasized the importance of providing accurate information when calling for an ambulance.

“When you call 103, be sure to provide the exact address, the patient's name and surname, their age, and current condition. This will allow us to arrive at the scene faster and provide the necessary assistance,” advises the paramedic.

In conclusion, Usupova gave recommendations for those who want to choose this profession.

“A paramedic is a specialist with a secondary medical education who has the right to provide first aid and diagnosis. A future paramedic should be educated, patient, and responsive, and know how to relate properly to each patient. In this profession, human qualities are extremely important,” she emphasized.

Working in emergency services is associated with urgent situations, so it is important to be able to make quick and correct decisions to save a patient's life. A paramedic must be able to provide obstetric care, deliver babies, dress wounds, and perform basic resuscitation measures, including artificial respiration and other procedures.

“As I mentioned, when working with patients in critical condition and their relatives, it is necessary to show patience, restraint, and compassion, to properly assess the patient's condition, and to timely decide whether hospitalization or a doctor's visit is required,” she concluded.
