From November 8 to 13, 2025, President of India Droupadi Murmu visited Angola and Botswana, marking a significant moment for Indian-African relations. This visit was the first for the head of the Indian state to these countries and underscores India's commitment to developing cooperation with African nations at a new level. This was reported by Capital FM.

The trip to Angola coincided with the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the countries, opening new horizons for cooperation in energy, agriculture, healthcare, trade, defense, and infrastructure. President Murmu's presence at the celebration of Angola's 50th independence anniversary became an important symbol of friendship and mutual respect.

Angola, with its significant oil and mineral resources, represents a key partner for India in the field of energy security.

In Botswana, which India considers a reliable partner in Southern Africa, President Murmu addressed members of the National Assembly and met with representatives of the Indian diaspora. Discussions focused on developing cooperation in areas such as the digital economy, education, culture, and investments, as well as technical cooperation programs in line with Botswana's priorities.

Strengthening ties with Africa is part of India's long-term strategy aimed at forming sustainable partnerships across the continent. Africa plays a crucial role in meeting India's energy needs and strengthening its position in the Indian Ocean. Indian initiatives, such as naval presence in Mauritius, highlight the country's commitment to promoting regional security and sustainable development.

In international organizations, India and Africa demonstrate a high degree of coordination. New Delhi actively facilitated granting the African Union the status of a permanent member of the G20, which was an important step towards creating a more equitable system of global governance and enhancing the position of the Global South.

Amid growing competition among world powers for influence in Africa, India emphasizes democratic development, mutual benefit, and long-term partnerships. The country's significant contribution to peacekeeping operations and training programs, along with the active role of the Indian diaspora, strengthens its position on the continent.

President Murmu's visit marked a significant milestone in Indian-African cooperation. The active promotion of joint projects in digital technologies, green energy, education, defense, and culture reflects India's intention to create a comprehensive partnership with African states and strengthen humanitarian ties.

This visit highlighted India's status as a reliable long-term partner for Africa and reflects its commitment to sustainable economic growth, regional stability, and the formation of a multipolar world order.
