Since the beginning of the year, the population growth in Kazakhstan is mainly attributed to natural increase. In 2025, 168.5 thousand children were born in the country, while immigration accounted for only 12.2 thousand people.

The largest population increase is observed in Astana, where over 10 months the population grew by 6.1% (to 1.5 million). The main factor behind this growth was the migration flow, which constituted 81.5% of the total number of newcomers, with more than 76 thousand people moving to the capital since the beginning of the year.

Almaty also saw a population increase of 2.17%, bringing its number close to 3 million. This growth mainly occurred due to migrants, whose number exceeded 33 thousand people.

Shymkent, in turn, increased by 2.62%, reaching 1.3 million residents, with the main growth factor here being natural increase, unlike the capital cities.

In addition to large cities, there is also a population growth in Akmolinsk, Aktobe, Almaty, Atyrau, and Mangistau regions.

However, in twelve regions of the country, a population decline has been recorded. These include the Abai, Zhetysu, and Ulytau regions, as well as West Kazakhstan, Zhambyl, Karaganda, Kostanay, Kyzylorda, Pavlodar, North Kazakhstan, Turkestan, and East Kazakhstan.

The largest population decline occurred in North Kazakhstan, amounting to 1.29%. The Abai region also lost more than 1% of its residents. This is associated with active migration processes, as many Kazakhs leave these regions.
