During the forum in Doha, Ahmed Ash-Sharaa noted: “Syria should be associated not with specific individuals, but with the creation of sustainable institutions that can function for a long time” (quote from SANA). He emphasized that this is the main challenge for the transitional period.
Ash-Sharaa came to power in Syria in December 2024, after the overthrow of the former president Bashar al-Assad. The new authorities announced the suspension of the old constitution and dissolved the parliament, as well as the security services and armed formations.
The transitional period plan in Syria is set for five years. In March of this year, Ahmed Ash-Sharaa signed a constitutional declaration that defines the legal basis for this time.
