A resident of Manas told the BBC about her son who went to fight in Syria

The State National Security Committee commented on a recent video

Razia Umetova, a resident of Manas, shared with the BBC channel the story of her son who went to the conflict zone in Syria. Soon after, the interview became available on social media. Special services conducted an investigation and revealed details of what happened.

According to the information from the State National Security Committee, her son, Nurlan Umetov, born in 1992 in Manas, had a criminal past and was one of the leaders of a youth gang.

Nurlan left Kyrgyzstan and went to Russia as a labor migrant. Between 2014 and 2015, he fell under the influence of recruiters from the terrorist organization "Katiba Imam al-Bukhari" (KIB). Later, he moved to Turkey, from where he was smuggled into the Syrian province of Idlib and joined the militants.

Since 2016, he had no contact with relatives and acquaintances in Kyrgyzstan.

Umetov underwent training in terrorist camps and participated in combat operations against Syrian government forces, as a result of which he was killed.

The State National Security Committee urged citizens to be cautious and not to succumb to the manipulations of recruiters from banned international terrorist and extremist groups. The agency noted that such organizations continue to actively recruit new members, using modern technologies, social networks, and remote methods. Recruiters often apply psychological pressure, manipulation, and lies to exploit people's vulnerabilities, the State National Security Committee warned.
