Today, at 23:15 local time (20:15 Bishkek time), a strong earthquake occurred off the eastern coast of Japan. The epicenter was located at a depth of approximately 50 kilometers, according to data from the country's Meteorological Agency. The agency reports this.

This is not the first tsunami warning this year in Japan. In July, more than 2 million people were instructed to evacuate due to the threat of waves caused by a powerful earthquake in Kamchatka. As a result, warnings covered 117 cities, and the tsunami reached 22 prefectures of the country.

In the context of the recent tremors, Nikkei Asia previously reported, citing an unpublished government report, that a hypothetical earthquake with a magnitude of 7 centered under Tokyo could result in the loss of around 18,000 lives. The estimated damage from the potential disaster is $534 billion, which is lower than previous forecasts. It is expected that the destruction will affect about 400,000 buildings in the capital of Japan.
