A 5.7 magnitude earthquake has been recorded in Bangladesh, resulting in the deaths of at least five people, including one child, and around a hundred individuals have been injured, according to preliminary data reported by Kazinform.
According to information from Reuters, there are numerous reports of building damage in various regions of the country, including the capital Dhaka, where the population density is particularly high.
Aftershocks were also felt in eastern Indian states neighboring Bangladesh; however, authorities in those regions have not yet reported significant destruction.
Mohammad Yunus, the acting head of the Bangladeshi government, stated that among the injured are students from Dhaka University, factory workers in Gazipur, and residents of Narsingdi, where the earthquake's epicenter was located. His statement did not specify how the five individuals died. Earlier, police reported that three of them were victims of a balcony collapse in a six-story building during the seismic tremors.
According to Nurjahan Begum, a health advisor, several injured individuals transported to hospitals from Narsingdi are in serious condition.
