A tsunami warning has been issued in Japan after a magnitude 6.9 earthquake

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has issued a tsunami warning following an underwater earthquake in the Pacific Ocean.

According to JMA data, tremors with a magnitude of 6.9 were recorded at 17:03 local time (JST) at a depth of about 20 kilometers.

On the map provided by JMA, the northeastern coast of Japan, including the prefectures of Iwate and Miyagi, is shaded in blue, indicating the possibility of waves up to 1 meter high.

Residents of coastal areas are advised to stay away from the sea and prepare for possible aftershocks.

There is currently no information on damage or injuries.
