This statement was made by the President of Kazakhstan at a forum in Turkmenistan

Tokayev's speech took place at a forum dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust, as well as the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's status of permanent neutrality. The text of his speech was posted on the official website of the Turkmen president.

In his speech, the President of Kazakhstan emphasized the importance of Ashgabat's initiative related to the proclamation of the International Year of Peace and Trust. He noted that, despite certain successes in conflict resolution, the global situation remains extremely difficult.

“There is a lack of key factors such as trust, tolerance, and the recognition of the importance of peace and cooperation for sustainable development. It is also regrettable to note the weakening of international law and its substitution with certain rules, which undoubtedly leads to a decrease in the authority and effectiveness of multilateral institutions, primarily the UN,” Tokayev stated.

He added that without restoring strategic balance and creating a just world order, stability and security on the international stage may remain only a desire, unrealizable in reality.

“Therefore, Kazakhstan supports the reform of the United Nations, including the expansion of the Security Council and strengthening the role of the General Assembly. Within the framework of the 80th session of the General Assembly, I proposed to create a 'group of like-minded individuals' to develop specific proposals for changing the UN system,” the President of Kazakhstan concluded.
