The visit of the famous Argentine footballer Lionel Messi to India resulted in serious disturbances at the stadium, as reported by Kazinform, citing BILD.
The incident occurred in Kolkata at the Salt Lake Stadium, which accommodates about 85,000 spectators. This event marked the first stop on Messi's Indian tour, which started right after his triumph in MLS. Before his arrival, a 21-meter monument to the footballer was erected in the country. However, the event did not go smoothly: due to security threats, his appearance before fans was interrupted.
When Messi appeared before the audience, panic broke out in the stands, and bottles were thrown onto the field. As a result, the athlete was quickly escorted off the arena under guard.
After Messi's departure, the situation at the stadium worsened. Videos began to appear on social media showing spectators tearing out seats, running onto the field, ripping down banners, and damaging advertising structures.
The cause of the fans' dissatisfaction was that mostly politicians and show business representatives were near Messi. One fan, who paid 12,000 rupees for a ticket, expressed confusion: "We couldn't even see his face. Why were we even invited?" - quoted by the Times of India.
