Ministry of Industry of Mongolia: the country meets all its needs for oil products through imports from the Russian Federation and China

According to the ministry's statement, 95% of oil product imports come from Russia, while the remaining part is from China. As of January 7, 2026, 65,029 tons of fuel were imported through five border crossings. Importers have also confirmed orders for the purchase of 287,860 tons of oil products for January 2026, including 136,470 tons of AI-92 gasoline, 148,090 tons of diesel fuel, and 3,300 tons of AI-95 gasoline.

During a meeting with market participants, including importers and distributors, the ministry urged not to raise prices for AI-92 gasoline and to regularly order it from Russia to ensure supply stability. The participants of the meeting agreed on plans to create a unified electronic system for accounting stocks and supplies, which should help reduce current costs.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bégzsurengiin Enkhtuvsin previously noted that amid citizens' concerns about a possible repeat of the fuel shortage at the end of 2025, supplies from Russia remain stable. This has resulted from an agreement reached during Vladimir Putin's visit to Ulaanbaatar in 2024 regarding the stability of oil product supplies.

Enkhtuvsin also emphasized that Russia is ready to continue supporting Mongolia in fuel supply matters, noting that the Russian Federation "has long and reliably provided the Mongolian economy with the necessary energy resources." According to the Russian-Mongolian agreement, the volume of supplies should amount to 1.8–1.9 million tons of oil products and 60,000 tons of aviation kerosene annually on a mutually beneficial basis.
