The press secretary noted that Trump made his request in order to create better conditions for the upcoming negotiations. “Yes, President Trump indeed asked President Putin to refrain from attacks until February 1,” Peskov told reporters.
When asked if February 1 was the deadline Trump requested, he confirmed: “Until February 1.” At the same time, Peskov did not comment on whether Putin agreed to this request, nor did he clarify whether it referred to a complete cessation of attacks or only on energy facilities.
“I have no additional details. I would just like to emphasize that the goal is to create conditions for negotiations,” he added.
The day before, Trump stated that he personally asked Putin to refrain from shelling Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities for a week due to the severe frost. He also claimed that Putin agreed to this request, but did not specify when this conversation took place.
At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that there had been no negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow regarding the cessation of attacks on energy facilities. He also expressed doubt that the continuation of negotiations in the United Arab Emirates on February 1 would be possible due to a potential U.S. attack on Iran, which could lead to an escalation of the conflict situation in the region.
